I’m all too familiar with my clients in the wharf going through incredibly busy periods at work and therefore struggling to maintain/prioritise training.
It’s inevitable that work loads will increase and this can detract from your time and energy.
So having a strategy to dealing with these periods is imperative.
Think of training as deposits in your bank account.
Some days we can allocate huge chunks of money to our savings.
Some days you may have unforeseen expenses that mean you can’t save as much as you’d like. However, we can all agree that going to the casino and gambling away whatever money you had left would be foolish. It would be wiser to just deposit what you can.
The same can be said for your training.
Some days you won’t have the time or energy to go and smash a 60 minute session in the gym, on these occasions you should try to make at least a small deposit. Keep yourself moving, work with what you’ve got and find the small wins.
Sometimes the 60 minute strength session in the gym may have to adapt to a 30 minute session or a 20 minute home workout. Some days maybe it’s just a long walk just to clear the head and get in some steps!
Sometimes you’re not firing on all cylinders. We know one good training week doesn’t make you an athlete, just as one bad one won’t destroy your progress.
Keep the journey in mind and when the bumps come try and find the small wins, a small deposit is better than nothing.
