I WAS WRONG.
In the past, I’ve got caught up in the minutia of mobility training (obsessing over fancy little mobility drills that would even put your physio to sleep).
But over time I’ve come to realise improving your mobility and building a better body can be a simpler process.
It’s all about bang for your buck training 💥 💵
Nobody wants to spend extra time in or out the gym doing boring exercises they hate.
The key to building a mobile, strong and pain-free body is thoughtful exercise selection.
Build a progressive strength programme that aligns with your biomechanics.
For example, you’ve uncovered your lower back/hip pain is as a result of poor hip mobility.
You could add in a boring mobility drill or stretching circuit every morning to target this OR you could slightly adapt the Split Squat in your session to bias the areas you want to improve.
In the second option you are getting more ‘bang for your buck’ by:
Working on imbalances using a unilateral movement.
Improving stability
Building Strength in Quads, Glutes etc.
Challenging the core through anti-lateral flexion.
All whilst improving mobility.
At the end of the day most people just need to get stronger.
So spend most of your time training the main exercises (Squats, Hinges, Pushes & Pulls etc) with intent, don’t worry about isolated fancy mobility drills.
Then be smart with how you tweak these movements using different loading strategies or set ups.
Ps. There’s nothing wrong with foam rolling or mobility drills, they have their place.
Let’s reform the way you train and get better RESULTS.
